PHOENXT's view on Coronavirus and Climate Change

- credit to Matthew McCarty

It goes without saying that the Coronavirus has changed the lives of virtually everyone. And while COVID has caused suffering to millions of people, tanked economies, and caused millions more to lose their jobs, there has been one unlikely benefit to emerge from all of this: a massive reduction in pollution from CO2 emissions. Imaging from NASA shows just how much less smog hovers over mainland China during the pandemic. At least, this seems to be a silver lining.

To detract from this silver lining even further, there has been an increase in pollution from the massive spike in production of personal protective equipment and more waste produced as a by-product. And despite this, very little has been done in the way of sustainability.

And quarantine has not prevented people from consuming. And despite many fast fashion brands closing their brick-and-mortar stores, millions still shop online, hunting for seasonal deals. To accommodate the inundation of online orders, Amazon has massively increased its delivery services. Very little, if any, is carried through an eco-friendly approach.

This concern is what Phoenxt seeks to combat. Our angle on sustainability is that we need to develop a technology which doesn’t contribute to CO2 emissions. Currently, our technology doesn’t directly produce CO2. The world we envision is one that is carbon neutral, and we are working to make that future possible. It shouldn’t take a pandemic to show us it is possible to reduce some of the already obvious signs of climate change. Rather, it should be part of our daily lives. If we are to learn anything from the pandemic, it's that long-lasting change should be implemented. Textile recycling is one of the areas that needs change. Phoenxt is that change.

Through working with fashions brands, municipal governments, and processing plants, Phoenxt can bring about a much needed change to one of the leading causes of pollution in the world via our signature technology. If we can achieve zero CO2 emissions in the field of textile recycling, which is possible, we will make magnificent strides in the battle against climate change.

Phoenxt possesses an invaluable tool to implement lasting change in the fight against environmental degradation. We have seen that the pandemic has altered the conversation about climate change, and with the looming threat of the worst pandemic in recent history, it seems as if the world is ending. But we can fight back. We now know that cutting back on carbon emissions is possible, so let's make this a permanent part of our future.
